What IS the Register of Wills and Recorder of Deeds?
If you don’t know, you aren’t unlike many Monroe County residents.
But as a taxpayer, you should understand the vital role this office plays in both your property value and the historical record of our region. As your new Register/Recorder, I will create educational initiatives that assist residents in using the office effectively. You’re paying for this service and should get the greatest possible benefit from it.
According to the Monroe County Website, the two descriptions read…
- The mission of the Monroe County Recorder of Deeds Office is to preserve the accuracy, and continuity of the public land records of Monroe County.
- The mission of the Monroe County Register of Wills Office is to preserve the accuracy, and continuity of records pertaining to estates.
What does this mean?
The Office of Register of Wills/Recorder of Deeds is one of the most important county unsung heroes. The office has a stake in many of the biggest moments of our lives, from buying a home to saying final goodbyes to loved ones. Whether doing that crucial title search on a home, making sure that a mortgage is cleared from your deed or, at the loss of a loved one, assuring proper estate protocols are met, the Register/Recorder guides the taxpayers through the ins-and-outs of what is often a confusing and/or difficult period of life.
The Register/Recorder must have empathy and approachability to interact with our community as the need arises. They must be available and accountable, and willing to listen. It’s a position that requires the right combination of business savvy, organiazational skills and “people skills”. I will bring fresh zeal, positivity and the willingness to serve to this office with your vote.
